Testing The Hypothesis Part 2

Image
In this post i will delve further into the opportunity of creating a site development company.  In order to further investigate this opportunity i have conducted interviews of people who should have the need that i have identified but for some reason do not have that need. From these interviews i have determined that although there are many companies and land developers out there creating new construction, some of them already have a site development company on contracts.  This shows that there is competition in the market of site development.  What i also learned from my interviews is that some of the larger companies that are involved in land development and new construction are a "one stop shop" of sorts, meaning that they do all of there own work from site development to finishing trim, leaving no room for my business with them.  I also determined that there is a difference between the need for a site development team and the need for a full project company, this...

Solving The Problem

As discussed in the last post, I have identified an opportunity that has been created by a boom in construction as well as a lack of site development crews.  In order to solve this need I plan to create at least one, if not multiple, site development crews to help diminish the unmet need of site development crews.  For those that don't know, site development crews are the first crew of workers that arrive at a new construction project and clear the land as well as install the erosion control and environmental protection devices required for construction to begin.

Testing The Hypothesis, Part 1

The opportunity that I have chosen to pursue is not one that I have previously discussed in this blog, instead it is an opportunity that I have recently stumbled upon and figured it was worth further investigation.  This opportunity is based on the huge influx in new construction that is taking place currently.  This influx creates a need for more site development crews, these are the people who are the first ones on a new construction site before ground is ever broke and they are the ones who clear the land and prepare it for the construction.  The people that are in need are the new owners of the land that are planning to develop the land into new neighborhoods, industrial areas, office space, whatever it is that it will become.  There are not enough site development crews to keep up with the demand. I interviewed people that I know in the site development industry, as well as property owners and neighborhood developers to get a better idea of the logistics of th...

Identifying Opportunites in Economic and Regulatory Trends

I have identified 4 different opportunities, 2 of which are based on regulatory changes and 2 of which are based on economic trends Opportunity 1 I found this opportunity in an article put out by the Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC), the FWC is planning to begin allowing for the harvest of goliath grouper in the near future based on a lottery tag system, there will be an unmet need of people who wish to catch goliath grouper but don't know how to or where to do it.  The prototypical customer will be anglers who wish to catch goliath grouper but need assistance, whether that be because of lack of knowledge or lack of boat or lack of tag.  This opportunity will be relatively easy to take advantage of because of my skill set in fishing and the great popularity of this fish.  What made me see this opportunity was my passion for all things outdoors. Opportunity 2 I found this opportunity in an article written a while ago about the legalization of medical marijuana in t...

Identifying Local Opportunities

Opportunity 1 Below The Surface Link To Article This story speaks of a local retired firefighter who has made a video of what the rid tide has done below the surface of the waters in the Sarasota Bay area. The problem presented in this story is the devastation of the sea life  caused by the red tide which has caused a drop in eco tourism because of the dead fish everywhere as well as the dangerous conditions.  This problem is experienced by all people who enjoy the beach and the oceans affected by the red tide as well as those who make a living from ecotourism in these areas Opportunity 2   Invasive and predatory, lionfish now live in bay Link To Article   This article tells of the discovery of lionfish deep inside of the Tampa Bay, this is the first lionfish found in this area and raises concern about the spread of the species. The problem presented in this article is the vast spread of lionfish and the catastrophic impact they have on our underwater eco...
